The context
The Municipality of Saint-Zénon, in Lanaudière, wanted to protect the Lac Saint-Sébastien beach from Canada geese during the summer. It was looking for a turnkey solution, without having to manage the posts, the nets and the schedule itself.
The challenge
A goose that can fly will clear any barrier. An exclusion net works on the ground: it stops geese from walking between the water and the grass. It therefore works during the period when the adults moult and lose their flight feathers and the goslings cannot fly yet, from late spring to late summer. It must also let residents and boats through, without letting the geese through.
The Filmar solution
The Canada Goose 360 service, made and installed by Filmar:
- 12 goose nets, 625 linear feet of shoreline in total, knotless black nylon, 3-3/4 in. stretched mesh (1-7/8 in. square), 210/60 twine, 3 ft high, in 50 ft panels;
- 3 access gates with their posts: two 5 ft gates for pedestrians and one 10 ft gate for boats;
- 31 net posts;
- complete installation in the spring, before hatching;
- complete removal in the fall, once the moult is over and the young have flown.
Filmar takes care of the schedule: installation in April, removal in September.
The result
The nets were installed in April 2026. According to residents and beach users, the number of geese dropped markedly during the 2026 season.
