Capture traps

Alaska traps, reservoir traps, and fyke-type traps for capturing and holding live fish.
Filmar traps are used for behaviour, migration and tagging studies: they guide fish into a holding chamber without injuring them. The Alaska trap combines a trap with a rear fyke net, a pair of wings and a removable leader; its parts are assembled as needed, and the rear section can also be used on its own. The non-selective reservoir trap uses a floating leader to guide fish into a cage ending in a tapered section. The fyke-type trap, with fine square mesh, targets eels of all sizes in lakes or closed bays. All are made of knotless nylon with a modular design, and are set in rivers, lakes or coastal areas.
