Mini pelagic trawl
Small three-section trawl for sampling shallow-water larvae and juveniles, towed by a small boat.
The mini pelagic trawl captures larvae, juveniles, and small pelagic fish in coastal areas, estuaries, and small bodies of water. The mouth is held open by two aluminum bars, a float, and weights. It is towed using a 7 m Boston Whaler type boat and a low-power winch. The net is designed in three sections of decreasing mesh size to increase filtration and capture, made of knotless nylon or Nitex. The third section can be replaced with a plankton net for sampling larvae. A dual version, mounted on a rectangular stainless steel frame, allows for two simultaneous tows.
